tensioning A/C belt 200 1984

Looked around the forums and could not find a thing. Looked through Bentley and Haynes books and they don't even mention anything. From the forums, loosen 2 bolts (13 mm) and then counterclockwise with the 3rd (10 mm). The question is are these bolts located towards the drivers side fender. I can see those three bolts, but the 2 13mm bolts look like mounting bolts. Pictures would help!

Thanks

tensioning A/C belt 200 1984

I've got a B21A and the compressor does not look like the one you showed me. It's looks like a big box type and the pulley is not split or shimmed. the pointer i put on the 2 bolts, there's 2 like the one on the left and one 10mm in the center(right arrow)

thanks for any help

CRANK pulley for AC belt tension 200 1984

" ... the pulley is not split or shimmed."

My post referred to the Crankshaft pulley, not the one on the compressor.

Did you look at the Bentley reference I gave you? The split-type Crank pulley is used for AC belt tension on all 240's before the B230 (1985).

tensioning A/C belt -- Bentley P215-3, Fig6. 200 1984

Your '84 has the B23 engine. The AC belt tension adjustment is done by varying the width of the crank pulley "V". Shims between the two halves are swapped in or out to alter how low or high the belt rides in the V-groove ("sheave").

I don't see a good description in Bentley, but check page 215-3, Fig.6 (and text above) for a start.

EDIT: I don't believe the AC compressor had a belt tension adjustment until the B230, which started in 1985.

1 front 13mm tensioning lock nut ...... big pic inside 56K warning 200 1984

..the 13mm bolts are inboard, towards the engine. the outboard bolts you see are mounting bolts...

...this nut locks the adjusting bolt...takes 13mm socket...if you pop off the airbox cover you'll have more room to operate...you can clean out the airbox, change your filter and check the airbox thermostat at the same time ...flap should be in the cold airopen position by-the-way...unless it's < 56 degrees where you are...

4 ... tensioning bolt...big pic inside 56K warning 200 1984

... 10 mm socket .... bolt loosens / tensions belts by moving compressor inboard / outboard ... you need to undo the 13mm nuts first ...

...you can also see the 2 outboard mounting bolts on the right hand side of the picture...

good luck, have fun !!!

Aren't these 4 pics for a B230? The '84 B23 is very different! N.M.I. 200 1984
