Bought a 1971 P1800 for $800 today 1800 1971

I'm usually on the 444 section asking questions about my PV445 when I'm pretending to be a mechanic, but .
Today I picked up a 1971 p1800 for 800 bucks. I couldn't pass it up for that price. Decent body with a bad repaint, but it actually runs. It's going to need the typical stuff done from sitting too long. I figured I couldn't lose for that price though. I wish I at least had my motor back in the 445 before I bought another car.

ah.. she looks so much nicer today than a few days ago :-)

Fog lights behind where the grill should be is a nice distraction for a missing grill...

Day light helps things. It's about a 30 foot paint job. Some panels look decent and others are horrible.

I got the grill in the trunk and all the trim is in the car. I just have to put my engine in the 445 before I mess with this 1800.

Is this the one I might have seen on the seattle craigslist?

Congrats!

Bought a 1971 P1800 for $800 today 1800 1971

Nice! About two years ago a guy was selling a '72. It was rittled with cancer on the body, the frame pieces needed replacing and the engine ran but needed a lot of time to put back what was taken off and butchered. That idiot wanted $2500 for it. I mention $500 and he got insulted. It sat for many months... Don't know what happened, it disappeared one day.

$800, even with bad paint, it looks almost complete.
Good luck

If it has its original floors, and the bottom 6-8 inches of the body aren't made out of Bondo, you got a tremendous deal. Even if it is that bad, you still didn't get ripped off---you could part it out for a nice profit, or bolt all the mechanical elements onto a 68 122 and have a 122E, and sell the rest of it.

I didn't realize the 14" alloys (from an early 740) would fit on over the calipers. They actually don't look too bad on the car---better without the big flat hub caps, and if you were to get a set of center cones and chrome lug nuts......

From what I could see, cancerous rust didn't appear to be an issue. I wasn't real concerned because of the price since it had a running b20 with fuel injection.
I agree about the wheels. They don't look half bad without the caps. I asked if they had the original wheels, but did not.

Bought a 1971 1800E for $800 today 1800 1971

Good score!

You say it runs... how well does it run? '71 is a great year, and hopefully still has its original engine and fuel injection. And a M41.

You might, if you get bored... try a thorough wet sand with 600 or so grit, then some serious polishing on that paint. Hard to say from here if that would help though.

And... for the record, it's not a 'P1800'.. the P designation was dropped at the end of the Jensen cars run. After that, its 1800S, until the introduction of fuel injection in 1970. Then it became 1800E. And that's what you have.

Congratulation! Enjoy it!

It runs well for being parked a long time. I'm going to get some new gas in there before I run it. It still has the b20 with fuel injection and the engine compartment is relatively clean, so that's good.
Paint job was done by a first timer so wet sanding it won't help. It has runs and bubbles from where the paint is coming up. It just has some surface rust where the paint bubbled and cracked. It looks like cancer from a distance, but it's just bubbled paint which is good.
Thanks for the model info. This is really my first dealings with the 1800. I've always liked them, but just bought this because of the price really.
I have to get my duett running first before I even touch the 1800.
Thanks for the help.
