What color(s) are the mystery wires? (NMI) 200 1988

Are they totally "loose" or connected to a 2-wire connector that's missing it's other half?

In any case, the "two loose wires coming up through my shifter" are probably coming from the reversing light switch on the tranny. The mating half of the connector wiring goes to Fuse 12 (B-Y) and back to the taillights (SB).
