TPS switch bad? ..and Knock Position Sensor problem? 200 1990

The TPS should be interchangeable.

I would suspect the idle control motor is dirty. You should clean it and make sure the vane flops back and forth with twisted quickly. You said air box was "nasty" and you cleaned the throttle body.

All it needs is a little more caressing. Good way to get to know your capabilities.

Reinstall it and follow the procedure to set basic idle after making sure the TPS is set exactly to click at the slightest opening of the throttle with no outside air leaks. The ECU needs to know when it is suppose to be idling or going to rev up to follow the program mapping routine.

The ECU self tunes (approx. 16-28 times a second) in closed loop with the 0-2 sensor. The knock sensor only adjusts the timing under different loads conditions and you would be hard pressed to blame these symptoms on it.

Happy rubbing!
