I hate these new purch dirty engines. If needed I take the new used cars to the local self clean wand car wash with a pocket full of quarters and go to town. These have all been on 940s. Take plastic bags and cover the alternator and distributor cap and cover the injectors with a piece of plastic or cardboard. What I do is spray any stinky petro based engine cleaner on selected areas before a very short ride to the car wash and then cover the electricals. Just be a little careful on the electrical components. One car I washed was so nasty with oil covered with dirt road grime, I went a little overboard. The car stalled once and sputtered most of the way home. By the time I got to the driveway, most of the sputtering was gone. I removed the distributor cap and let the engine dry out. You will notice what a pleasure it is working on a clean engine and a clean engine bay. Also remove the belly pan and get under the engine and tranny too. (Bring along some cardboard to lay on.) If I have to do a pinion seal, I’ll spend a couple bucks and clean the spun out oil and the crap sticking to it the same way. For brake jobs, If I remember, a day or two before, they are sprayed with a mild cleaner and hosed down.

I should have already cleaned the engine on my 1.5 year old 240.
