I always take a can of Purple Stuff and wet the engine down; then hit it with a power washer. If you think that you have a wiring harness issue, you need to correct it anyway. I can't believe that it took two weeks for a rewire, it is about a 10 hour job if you make the harness yourself. A direct replacment should be used if you are electrically challenged and that could take 4 hours, if you take a nap in the middle. Following is the last one that I washed:
