Would you trust this exhaust joint? 700

Well with my manifold stud problem solved tonight I moved onto the rest of the exhaust, and installing the aftermarket cat that I got from VlvWorld a couple of months ago. But the flange is not quite right. The flare on the intake end is a bit smaller than the original. I think this new one is meant to bolt to a flange and make a face seal instead of the more "cup-cone" seal of the original. Would you trust this exhaust joint? I already have an opinion on it. Yes, returning the cat should still be an option. And so is using the old one, if I drill out the old studs that were in the flange.

My foreign parts store has a large selection of ring gaskets - in fact, they have about 20 of them mounted on a board.

Some are solid metal and some look like REAL HEAVY steel wool.

    something like that might work.

i dont think the cat changes how the car runs so you might want it if you need to do an emissions test. Thieves cut them out quite often. if someone ripped mine I'd replace it with some straight pipe. New cars have a o2 sensor to cause trouble lights to come on so you run to the dealer to spend money. as far as I'm aware the only sensor is the O2 sensor before the cat. They did away with emissions testing here.

i seem to remember a gasket that is shaped like an O and made of something similar looking to asbestos. if it should be there the parts diagram will show it. I think we should check if there should be a part between. If that is missing maybe that's why the flange doesn't line up right?

Do you have both a ring gasket and a flat gasket in there?
Kinda hard to tell from the pic. Doesn't look like the flat gasket is doing anything.
Anyway if it doesn't leak when the bolts are good and tight, it's OK.
    If it leaks.......

No there's only a flat gasket, the one the new cat came with. That joint before didn't 'have a gasket. I can't pressure-test it though, that's the problem.

I'd get the right cat. You'll never get a good seal for the long term.
