Going with the idea of a bad Pinion bearing, Have you checked the fluid in the rear axle lately?

The slight Braking feeling when letting off the gas sounds like you may be low on Gear oil. Usually the cooler temps would not bring this on, it would affect the Center bearing. Does the sound go away after driving a mile or two?
