Oil Tube Question 444-544

I am putting a B20 oil pump into a B18 block. The oil tube for the B20 is shaped differently than the one for the B18. The B18 seems to mate up with the hole in the block and the outlet on the pump. My question is which is the proper tube to use with the B20 pump. I bought the oil pump on eBay but I'm guessing it's an aftermarket item the Pump reads VOLVO 100254. Does anybody know if this is a legitimate volvo part and what it goes into?

Oil Tube Question 444-544

You can use your old B18 tube with a B20 pump no problem. Lube the new seal rings with a little motor oil before slipping them onto the tube, and again on the outside. Then:

Push and twist the longer end of the tube into the pump as far as you can possibly get it to go.

Place the other end of the tube partway into the block, but don't try to seat it all the way yet. The pump shaft will not quite align with the hole it needs to drop into.

Apply pressure on the tube towards the block, and tap the pump into position with a hammer. This should make the tube seat in the block as well. If it's right, the tube will be quite firm and you won't be able to wiggle it around at all.

You'll need to cut a small notch out of the pan baffle to make it clear the new pump. Easy to do with a hacksaw.

Oil Tube Question 444-544

Quite a few years ago I took a B18 motor that had low oil pressure at idle and found that one of the rubber rings around the tube was blow out on one side. I removed the tube and fitted it with no ring around it and found that it did not have the same clearence all the way around it.I took my time an bent the tube untill the gap was the same all around install new rubber rings and then had good oil pressure all the time

Oil Tube Question 444-544

I recently put a B20 pump marked "VOLVO 1000254" in a B-18. The B-20 pump is taller, but its oil tube outlet is in the right spot to connect it back up using the old B-18 tube. You need new seals for the tube and have to make a slight cut out in the oil pan baffle to allow for the larger B20 pump body. I sure hope I'm right on this, because my engine is now back together in the car, though I haven't started it yet!

Oil Tube Question 444-544

Thanks for the info. Did you try using the B20 tube? I can almost get it to fit but I don't want to force it too much. One of the forum members was kind enough to post a Workshop Bulletin (from 1969!) explaining the oil pump situation and a diagram of how to modify the pan (Again, many many thanks!!) I'm just wondering why the tubes would be so different and if I should go ahead and try to force the tube in place.

Good Luck with your engine!!!

Oil Tube Question 444-544

I wish I could help you, but I only got the B20 pump, not a B-20 tube. The B18 tube fit well, it was just a matter of easing the 2 ends of the tube into position, while checking the 2 rubber seals were fully seating, and simultaneously mating the base of the pump squarely onto the block and aligned with the tapped holes.

Bill

Oil Tube Question 444-544

Just a follow up note. I have managed to get the parts to mate up okay, B20 pump, B18 tube. I was a little surprised that the Felpro engine rebuild gasket kit didn't have any of the washers. I salvaged one from the B18 and one from the B20 but I'd feel more comfortable with new ones. Anybody know where to get them?

Hello,

The aftermarket seals are pieces of *&^%.

These are Volvo only parts and I have them in stock.
