valve noise 200 1989

well guys I was able to get the harmonic balancer correct[place front washer on wrong] after timing belt change. notice valve chatter is getting kinda loud after 355k/miles what would be the opinion of my fellow brick rider.adjust and replace shims or contiue to drive & turn radio louder. I have read some threads saying don't worry about and others say it's maybe cam wear after many miles and won't help the performance.what's the group opinion????

    Balance Question 200 1989

Curious as to how you removed and replaced the balancer/pulley bolt, and how much you tightened it.

I believe under torquing can lead to the problem you just fixed with the replacement.

If I may add another question to your Tappet question::
Are these tappetts much harder then teh Cam that they maintain their size without wearing? How else can you Feel Gauge what you have then know what size tappet you need IF the tappet wore down? If the Tappets wear, then you might just have to exchange a worn one for a new one of teh same size. I've only done valve adjustments with the nice Nut/threaded Rocker cars

    Hi there,

Ordinarily I'd say what sounds like lifter noise can be rather subjective ranging from worn out hushers (i.e. over 6 months old) to piston slap (normal) but if you have to turn the radio up to drown it out you'd better have a look at the cam, and at the very least measure the clearances. You don't know how the PO treated it I assume. Are you familiar with the sound of other examples of B230F K-block motors for comparison's sake?
