Gasket Adhesive 444-544

Gasket sealer on oil pan, timing cover, side covers, fuel pump block to spacer and spacer to pump, water pump to block, thermostat housing, water manifold to block. Possibly head gasket and intake manifold gasket UNLESS your gasket set has a sealant coating applied by the manufacturer.
NO sealant on exhaust manifold to block, carb to manifold, distributor base or valve cover. You can use a couple dabs to help hold the valve cover gasket to the cover, but nothing on the block. If you go by the book, you'll be removing the valve cover to adjust valve clearance and you don't need to buy a new gasket each time.
I'm a big fan of Permatex Aviation Grade gasket sealer in the brush on jars. I HATE silicone!! The permatex creates an excellent seal, especially for water and oil and is easy to remove if you do need to change a gasket. I've been a mechanic, managed repair shops and built many engines for over 40 years and have great success with the Permatex. I'm sure others have their favorites. Hope this helps.
