"Does this tell you the ignition switch should be replaced, or the starter? I don't know what I'm bypassing with the test...whether the ignition switch or the starter solenoid or what."

By putting Battery +12V into the "Service Socket", you bypassed the Ignition switch.

Current flow was Battery==>Service Socket==>NSSwitch==>Starter solenoid.

Normally it's Battery==>Ignition switch==>NSSwitch==>Starter solenoid.
