Need tips on disconnecting drive-shaft for towing 200 1984

What do I do with the drive-shaft after disconnecting it from the differential for towing? Do I wire it up and out of the way somehow, or does it slide out of splines at the intermediate u-joint and I throw it in the back of the car for the trip? Never had anything to do with this part of the car yet.
