Brake Lights out on '89 240 200 1989

Hi Gents, I have no brake lights and this one has me stumped. I have power from Fuse #7, (green/red wire) to the brake light switch at the pedal. If I jump the switch (blue/red wire), I get nothing. If I jump from the GR at the pedal switch to the BFWS, post #9,(B/R wire) I have brake lights. It would seem that I should also have brake lights when I jump the switch - (which would tell me I have a bad switch). As it is now, I am not sure what to make of it. Any suggestions would be welcome. Thanks, Bernie

Sounds like the bulb-out warning sensor pooped out. That's the red cylindrical thing underneath the dash...

That was a recent topic here (a few weeks ago, in October); mine died and I was curious about the failure mode. Art Benstein's insightful posts explained its inner workings, and you might be able to jury-rig a temproary fix.

sounds like a break in the wire, or a bad connection of the wire at the plug connector at the sensor.

What happens if you jump from the B/R side of the switch to Post #9 and step on the brake? If the brakes lights come on, you could just attach a spade connector at the switch end and leave the jumper in place permanently.

You can do one further test of the switch - leave the G/R wire in place, take off the B/R wire, then probe the lug on the switch where the B/R connects with a test light and step on the brakes. If the tester lights up, the switch is good and that pretty much confirms a wire or connector problem.

Hey Guys, thanks very much for your responsiveness, all helpful advice. I pulled Art's posts from October but, as it turns out, "BoxVolvo" was right on the money. The advice led me to a break in the connection of the B/R wire in the connector ring of the BFWS. (old one was melted in the plastic, pin #9.) Getting a "new" one from the junkyard. Much appreciated Gents. Bernie
