Well for what it's worth, I have 544 #436293 and it's an F with a 11244 type code to it... It's titled as a '66. My understanding is that at the time Oregon (but this car has a California title), titled the car as what ever year it left the sales lot.
I have never seen any litature from Volvo in that era that had a 'model year' on it. I agree with OK that if the car was produced in Oct. of '65, it would have been hard to get it to market before the end of December. The Volvo notes I have seen have a 'Reported OK' date and a 'Delivery Date'. In the PVs I have, those two dates can be as little as 7 days apart and as much as 3 months. Mostly it's about 12-14 days. I have always assumed the 'delivery date' was the date it was loaded on the ship. But maybe they were getting them from Stockholm to Detroit (the import site for the PV coming to the Western US) in 12 days.
