Heater Control Valve? 200 1989

In my '83, I replaced that valve twice (in a row) and both of the new replacement valves did not shut off the flow. In frustration, I put a 1/2" copper ball valve from the home improvement plumbing dept on the hose under the hood. I open it when it gets cold, and close it in the spring. Just another quirk in the green machine. Works great, about $2.00.
