Odd low thermostat reading....gauge problem or thermostat issue? 200 1993

This is a frequent problem with the later 240 instrument clusters. Have a look at this thread:

The engine thermostat is working if you are getting good heater output on a cold day. Another test is to feel the upper rad hose when fully warmed up, it should be too hot to hold onto.
