The sole purpose of the stove, associated tube and thermostat valve in the air cleaner is to reduce emissions during early warm up. This is from a Bosche manual on fuel injection. It has nothing to do with icing, faster warmup or all the other fanciful notions such as easier warm starting on cold days (yes I read that here). It has no effect at all after warm up. As stated if you remove something that is emissions related you have a slight chance of a sharp inspector with nothing to do catching it. Why not just lock the valve closed as many Brickseters do and leave everything in place. That way the emissions police would really have to be bored in order to know. How much room to you really need under the hood?
