Help with camshaft seal installation on 740 700 700 1988

As I suspected.
So just wipe everything with lacquer thinner or solvent, and put a small amount of Permatex Aviation sealer on the flat of the cap, near the area where the seal is. You can see the remnants of the sealer used at the factory. Oil the bearing area, install the cap, and THEN install the seal. All will be well.
