The Secret Gadget-o-Phone is Ringing 700 1987

Hi,

The black ground wires are usually tied together inside of the harness or at one terminal or the other. The ground wires serve as the negative terminals for the air flow meter, the fuel injectors, the idle air control valve, and the fuel computer's relay. This noise you heard was the computer relay struggling to stay energized.

If you wish to check that the airflow meter is in order, detach its wire harness and start the engine. If the engine will now respond to throttle operation, it's a good bet that it has failed.
