Shiftlock/startproblems when its really cold out. 200 1991

Good evening!
It got down to -15 farenheit the other night and in the morning when I turned the key all the lights came on and it just klicked from the passenger side. Shiftlever was stuck in in park and the button would not move either, also no brake lights. I checked the fuse and it was allright. I pulled off shifter cover and pushed that little piston in (shiftlock solenoid?) and got lever to move to N and then tried to start it. It cranked but after only two tries the battery died. I had to go to work and left it untill the afternoon and I tried to start it again, temperature had gone up to zero and this time it fired up right away. Everything worked, the shiftlock solenoied clicked when I depressed brake pedal, brake lights, shifter and all. I thought everything was fine but the same thing happened the next morning to.

I'm leaning towards the battery even though it was purchased in September and show 12.5V, 15V when car is running. What do you BB'ers think?

Sorry for the long post!
