They can only have gotten in via the intake snorkel or the hot air tube. The hot air tube is almost a sealed affair, if it's intact. I suppose they could crawl all the way in from the hot air stove. That would be a squeeze, but rodents are good at that. You could block off the hot air tube and remove the air box t-stat--block the flap shut, a lot of people do, depending on your climate. As for the air snorkel inlet, a piece of screening and a wire tie will do the trick.
