There are three multiwire connectors that attach to the cluster.

1. Half-moon 5 wire. Includes the fuel gauge.

2. Full circle 8 wire. Included the temp indicator.

3. Speedo connector. Three wire white plastic connector plugs into the back of the speedo. Is this the mystery connector?

The only other multi wire connector in that area that I can think of is the one that attaches to the light rheostat. You probably had to remove it to get the cluster out. It should have four wires, white with red stripe, gray and two browns.
