ANSWER How to tighten ball joint that has nylock nut and no flats on shaft? 200 1979

Not sure what works for mechanics, but I wash the conical surfaces with solvent. Since I've had air tools, the challenge is all but gone.

Edit: Another thought if you don't have air -- Clean the mating surfaces (remember how hard it was to separate them?) and use a non-locking nut to cinch them up first. Maybe then you can turn on the lock nut without the shaft spinning in the housing.
