Volvo started using R134 in 1993, so you will have to change most stuff on your 92. I suggest the following: rebuilt compressor ($135 from eBay guy from Texas),both flexible hoses ($45 each from FCP Groton) and the receiver-drier ($24 from FCP Groton) and a VOV (variable orifice valve instead of the orifice tube, also about $30). You will need 1.4lbs or 3 cans ,close enough at 36oz, ($15 each) of R134.
A shop will evacuate the old refrigerant for you, then you go home and after soaking with PBlaster for 2-3 days, take off the old hoses, use NEW GREEN 0-rings and install the new hoses (not as simple as it sounds). Take the car back to the shop and have them put it under a vacuum for 45 minutes. If no leaks, then add the R134 to the low pressure side.
ENJOY the cold air inside your Volvo again!!
I will be doing this exact procedure tomorrow at my buddy's brother's commercial shop, right next to the Laguna Madre in South Texas. Then afterwards....FISHING!!
and Beer drinking after that.
Good luck,
