Replacing FPR 200 1985

Am replacing the 26 year old FPR and need to relieve the fuel line pressure. I read the clean way is to pull the pump fuses (#4 and #6) and run the engine until it dies. I pulled both fuses and ran the engine for a good 15 minutes and began to wonder when is it going to die. I felt the main fuel pump and it seemed to be running based on the slight vibration and humming!

Anybody have input on this? Should I just use a rag to catch the gas as I disconnect the FPR from the line?

Thanks as always.
