The telltale signs of a bad alternator, but... 200

I think this has all been covered but: 1st thing I'd do is jumper it per AOG's suggestion. I go right from the alternator case to the battery. If it works, move the ground to the engine block. If it stops working, remove and clean all the ground straps - start w/ neg the battery cable.

Then look at the alt brushes. 2 screws if it's a later model. Then the exciter wire and light.

I'm helping a friend get his new 240 road ready today. One of the items on the list is remove, clean, grease, reinstall all grounds. I'm not a maintenance freak but I've had so many electrical probs that were just weak grounds.
