The rear axle only needs to be supported (with the weight of the car on jack stands at body points) so there's no binding or pressure on the shocks. Once the shoocks are disconnected the axle assemble will want to drop with room to spare for spring removal. Lower the axle supporting jack gently--keep an eye on the twin brake flex hoses. If there's some sort of problem the upper spring perch is held with one bolt for removal. -- Dave
