Oil light on at start up and chug when put in drive/hard starting 200 1988

Hi guys :)

I have a small problem with my 1988 240GL. It was serviced a few months ago and had a new CPS and a crack in the exhaust manifold "fixed", but it has re-opened or a new one has formed. The guy also put some Shell Helix as the replacement oil, I don't know what viscosity it was. The previous oil was Penrite 10-60 and that is what will go back in it next oil change since that is what seems to work better. The issues I worry about are:

1.) Upon start up the oil light comes on for a few seconds then goes off, never lights up again until you restart the car after letting it sit. It never used to do this.

2.) The engine also is more difficult to start, needing more key turn and some chugging before it idles fine. Then when I put the car into drive it also chugs then surges once until the car is moving at a no load speed. It also never used to do this.

3.) The piston slap the car has had since I bought it seems to be getting worse quicker than it used to since 1.) and 2.) started happening.

Any suggestions on how to fix?... thank you everyone ;)

    An 88 w/ a CPS, hmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Best to replace the exhaust manifold before you burn a valve.

You don't say time/ miles for these changes. Where you are re weather/ temp.

    1) Oil filter, oil, just wear. Maybe sensor? Some of mine do this; some don't.

    2) I'd do a flame trap & throttle body service for a start. Have you gotten some bad gas?

    3) Again, how long & how much driving? We had one w/ slap noises for 50K+ miles that would sometimes seem worse, then batter, .... a friend has it and is still driving it several years later.

What oil filter did he use? different then you normally use?

It may be a cheaper one where the oil drains back out of the filter. That will cause the engine to take an additional second or two to build Pressure.

As for the crack in the manifold--there's only one way to permanently "repair" cracked cast iron--replace it. I have a good manifold available for $30 plus postage. You can reach me by writing to-----fastforwardphoto(AT)yahoo(DOT)com-----.
Regarding the oil pressure lamp---are you using the same oil as always? With the described hard starting/chugging--it is possible one or more of your injectors are leaking down while at rest--fouling the plug(s)--and diluting the oil. Smell the oil on the dip stick--any gasoline smell?
Other than a rebuild there's not much can be done about piston slap--but if the oil is diluted with gas that could be a contributing factor. -- Dave

To answer you guys' questions ;)

Got the car 2 years ago at 301,000kms. I am in Tasmania, Australia, b230F engine.
Car is at estimated 324,000 (odo stuck at 314k)
      Since I bought it:

Car has had one new oil filter - the one recently put in, so there isn't one I "normally use" lol.
A few oil top ups as the oil got to 1/4 on the dipstick.
      Replacement dist. coil.
      Welded exhaust manifold
      New Crank Position Sensor
      Basic service

This piston slap issues - I know the car can go for ages on it, but I have noticed it can be heard at higher speeds up to 60km/h whereas it was nice and quiet for a couple 1000 kms after the service, now in the last 1000 it has deterioted.

How would you check for injector leak besides smelling the oil stick? (I'm not that great at smelling stuff, but I'll try it)

edit: there is a soft steady "whistle" noise from inside the cabin, heard more when warmed up, but not heard outside
