Do a compression check at your friend's - more info is better.

I agree w/ Rhys that you should minimize driving.

Note in the manual that you're supposed to remove the head bolts in sequence - reverse of tightening - to avoid head warping. I've never seen proof that this can cause warping but I do it anyway to be safe.
