If memory serves me right there is a set screw inside the cage. I replaced mine with a Chevy S10 heater motor from the mid 1980's. Had to drill the Volvo squirrel cage shaft hole to fit the chevy shaft and make an adapter plate for it. Took about 3 to 4 hours.
