If you really want the detailed and accurate answer to this, get the book "Bosch Fuel Injection and Engine Management" by Charles O. Probst, published by Bentley. Goes from the basic to the advanced, with plenty of diagrams and pictures, covering the numerous Bosch systems up to about 1990. Relatively easy to understand, and it completely solved my bedtime insomnia.

With luck it may be in your local library, or you can buy it via Amazon.

Everything you want to know and more.
