He make a good argument for re-using the head bolts.

I have done 8-10 HG's on red blocks, both N/A's and Turbos, and always re-used the head bolts after measuring. Not a single problem with ANY of the HG replacements! In fact, one of the cars, a 91 745T, after the HG, towed a trailer both ways to L.A., was sold, and is not a flower delivery vehicle in the Dallas area.

Granted this is anecdotal, but I would rather save my money. Particularly since the $30-$40 headbolts are almost certainly NOT O.E. Volvo bolts.

I do take care to chase the block holes, make sure the bolt holes are clean and dry, chase the threads on the bolts, and oil before install.


And I have seen broken head bolts, but not on red blocks. Only seen on white blocks, both 5 cyls. and 6 cyls.
