740 front brakes - how to disconnect lines to caliper 700 1991

I'm replacing my front calipers. How do I disconnect the brakes lines without twisting them? I don't understand why there is 2 connections for each hose. How can I tell if I have ABS or not? I can identify that they are Girling because of the brake pad. Thanks.

You first disconnect the rubber hose at the fitting where it connects to the hard line coming in through the fender. That is invariably rusted solid. See the FAQ for details on how to get this loose but buy yourself some PBlaster and start soaking it.

It MIGHT be possible to remove the caliper body from the mounting frame, take out the pads, and rotate the entire caliper around as you unscrew it from the hose.

I always do it by loosening the line at the caliper, then unscrewing the caliper. Leaving the junction of the hard and flex lines alone seems to have the best result.
ABS; in the engine compartment, follow lines to where they go; if they exit the master and leave the area through panels to the brakes, no ABS; if they go to a box that's partly metallic silver and black plastic, about 6x6x4 with a lot of brake lines to and from it, and mounted just in front of either side shock tower, it's ABS.

Hey guys I eventually got it done by spraying the crap out of everything with kroil. Then I had to clip one of the lines at the junction to the hard line, taking a deep 14 with a breaker bar, and an 11 open hex wrench situated so that it was against the tie rod end. Apply a quick hit of pressure on the breaker bar. Bam. Kinda scary cus I could've just as easily stripped the copper line nut, but luckily I didn't. Got it to work that way on both sides..

Why the hell didn't they just reverse thread one of the parts so ... yeah..
        thanks!
