so i was having problems with the fuel pump, i think i have that resolved, besides fuel gage reads empty all the time now..........when i turn on the head lights the wipers come on the front and rear wipers. Any idea whats screwy?

Ok thanks i am on the right trail now! Here is where i am at, if i turn on lights wipers come on, driver side headlight much dimmer, so if i disconnect the drivers headlight the problem goes away. i am looking in my books and online for exact location of this fender ground, in hopes this fixes it?

side note : on inspection of drivers side light i found two things, one a vacuum hose not connected, and a two wire plug adapter not hooked up?

Based on its location, the vacuum line looks like the vent for the washer reservoir.

Post Back. That's whats makes this forum work.

If you look at the inner fender behind the headlamp you will see a metal tab with multiple male tabs for ground wires attached to the inner fender with a screw. This is the ground buss. Remove it and clean the attaching point to the fender. The extra conector should be a washer pump mconector for the rear on a wagon. They only use 1 harness, so the conector is there but not used on a sedan. The vacuum hose is a washer vent. it should be conected to a tee with a 1 way valve in it.

I can'r see either well but the connector is surely for an option not fitted to your can but common to the market...fog lights?

The hose is more of a mystery but I have not worked on a 7-series in a while. Where does it start? Could it have been something like the vent/drain for an old-school battery.

Headlights and washer poump share a ground at the fender. Backfeeding through the wiper relay.

By any chance are your highbeams not functioning?

As Onkel points out, the first place to start is the ground planes to check for corrosion. See the FAQ page on locating and deoxidizing these before you start pulling circuits and components apart.

Pretty sure you have a bad ground...no idea which one.

If I remember Art's tutorials on how this works, the wiper motor is pretty much hot all the time and the grounding is what activates it and allows it to park.

It will be interesting to see if my guess is correct because it really is an educated guess.
