"However, I wasn't able to replace the sparkplugs without new wires. The tune-up kit from IPD came with plugs with a rounded end, and not the smaller threaded ones that my wires will mate too."

Just grab those rounded ends with a pliers (teeth will do in a pinch) and unscrew
