1983 242Turbo door trim quesrtion 200 1983

My 1983 242Turbo doors have black trim all around the door. At the bottom it is the rubber and metal against the glass that come off easily, but how do it get the rest of the black trim off to swap to a rust free door. Was it a one-time use item? My body shop can't figure it out and I have never pondered this question before. Thanks so much. Hopefully you will see it in Stratton.

Thanks.

Brad

Your question is a little less than clear Brad. The outside glass squeegee assembly is metal and rubber. It is pressed down on to the top of the outer door panel. The ends are bent around the window frame, front and back. Unbend those tabs, then pry up underneath the molding outside and it will come away from the sheet metal. The inside squeegee does have metal inside of it, but not visible. It is attached to your door panel with spring clips. You can remove it by first taking the door card off the inside of the door. Your car's waist molding, the spear that runs across the center of the door, can be popped out using a screwdriver carefully inserted under the molding from below. Be slow and be gentle and you may be able to remove the molding without breaking the clips. Start at the back of the door and work your way forward.

Your 82 should have no moldings at the "bottom" of the door.

Thanks for the responses. Let me try to be more clear. I am referring to the OUTSIDE of the door. The glass squeegee assembly at the bottom of the door is indeed metal and rubber and is black on my car as it is a turbo. The rest of the door frame around the glass is black on my car too. On some 240s, the rest of the door frame around the glass would have been paint or chrome, but mine is black. What made it black? The black trim appears to have no way to get it off the door frame. Was it a one-time use item such as tape?

How about a picture of what you are talking about. If you are talking about the frame around the door glass I'm not sure it comes off. The only way it might come off is if you take the door trim off and look inside the door,I know it has adjustment bolts but I'm not sure it comes out.

The metal trim around the windows is stainless steel all the way up to '93. It was painted black for special models in the early years, and painted black for all models in the later years. You won't be able to remove it without destroying it (I think).

If you have a door that has "chrome" around the window, scuff it and paint.

That's what I was afraid of. I have two rusty northern doors being replaced by two rust free doors, but the only trim I have is on the old rusty doors. To complicate matters, it is a 242 and volvo does not have any of the trim pieces left for a 2-door. Ideas?

Thanks.

I couldn't figure out to what he referred either, David. The only other piece of black trim all around the door I could think off would be the rubber edge guard that some people add to prevent careless door opening dings. That might be glued on.
