Mann oil filters

About a month ago my son reported that the Mann oil filter on his 1995 944T had backed off enough to cause a major oil leak. He added oil and tightened the filter. This week I had a major oil leak on my 1994 944T. I, too found the oil filter leaking from the gasket integral to the filter. I've been doing my own oil changes for over forty years, and I've always tightened spin on oil filters with one hand as tight as I could turn it. I've never had an oil leak until now. I suspect that Mann is using a different rubber in the oil filter gasket, and that it is getting soft and allowing an oil leak and possibly allowing the filter to loosen.
