The Mann W917 on my shelf is made in Germany. I prefer the Mahle filter, made in Austria, with the fluted top, enabling use of a filter wrench to tighten more than hand tight, usually 1/2 to 2/3 turn after filter contacts housing. Always I put a lick of fresh oil on the filter's rubber gasket, but after 40 years of filter changes you know that, too.
