And while there's some advantage to using a 140 box (i.e. - the collapsible, non-spearing steering column) there's really nothing wrong with the PV front end. Sure, it can get worn out - so rebuild it. There's not a lot of rubber bushings to deflect and add mush to the steering feel, so it's very light and precise feeling. It's probably part of why a PV feels more fun to drive than do later model Volvos with more rubber in the front end.
