The surprise to me comes from the OP's words. They express incompatible ideas.
The idea something like this, if not exaggerated, is a horrible driving experience. Incompatible is someone living with it for years despite it being "aligned several times."
How can we leave this to a bunch of enthusiast theorists to diagnose remotely over the internet, given the story it has been to a professional for alignment more than once? Any alignment for money paid would find a loose steering column joint or a bad tire either on the rack or during the test drive. Dan needs to take this car to another shop. Seriously.
