Winter Driving in northern Virginia 200

I no longer have a 240 - it was totaled a few years ago, but I kept it as long as I could - but it was actually a very good car in the snow. The key ingredient however, for turning my lead sled into a snow machine was the rubber on the wheels. First I had hakkas, and then I had a set of yokohamas because I was a bit tight on cash at that moment. They served me for many years and were worthe very penny.

I went to the junkyard and bought a set of 15 inch rims for 20$ 4 rims. you might pay a b it more, but thee are TONS in the scrap yard, so go grab a set. Get 4. no question. it's not about going so much as it is about stopping and turning.

I drove through storms like this. Until the car bottomed out, I could go.

I now have gone to the dark sie and have a BMW 5 series, and I picked up a set of 4 rims with barely used b lizzacks mounted, and TPMS and nice covers. The difference continues to be amazing. I have driven BMW 5 series AWD loaners, and they are all over the place even on wet winter roads because they have performance AS run flats. My RWD with the blizzacks is far better to drive. I pushed it in 12 inches yesterday, and it's biggest limitation compared to the 240 is less ground clearance. It actually handles better, but does struggle more for forward momentum.

So, if you plan to keep your car, get 4 snows, put a shovel in the back, and look for rims in places like Craigslist.
