re: update 1 - more question 200 1987

Hi SB,

How far apart? If the rear housing is still stuck then prying slowly around the housing sides should do. Change to thicker tool as the gap widens. The rear should be able to eventually break free (along with the alt stator )

By this time the front shaft/armature is usually still stuck within the front housing held by the bearing. Place front housing upright and support its sides - use thick wood or vice jaws - so that you could knock the shaft out from the front. Place some wood over shaft end to protect the threads while knocking.

Its the RUST between shaft and front bearing's inner sleeve making it stuck. Use lots of penetrating oil or carb cleaner. Repeated knocking should loosen the rust and let the oil goes inside.

There is no permanent magnet inside there. The alt armature could be a little bit magnetic but not strong enough to prevent separation.

Hope this helps,
Amarin.

EDIT: An alternative but more invasive way is to undo the front screws holding the front bearing and knock shaft-bearing thing out of front housing. But this way you'll have to grind/dremel the front bearing out from shaft as usually not enough space between bearing and alt armature to use a puller.
