Driver's manual seat - won't slide up or back 900 1994

Dear wareagle32789,

Hope you're well. As Amarin noted, on the underside of each seat rail there's a stud with a round head, that goes through a hole in the floor pan. On one side of the floor pan opening there's a slot into which the stud's shaft enters. The stud's head being under the floor pan, the seat cannot be lifted.

Having had to remove a seat yesterday, I'm pretty sure the seat should be moved forward 1/4", to align the stud's head with the round opening in the floor pan.

The seat is best manipulated from behind, and it will ease removal from the car, if you remove the headrest. See the FAQs for how to remove the headrest. Cover with cardboard the door opening's threshhold, to protect the rocker panel's paint.

DEATH DANGER WARNING: Before trying to remove the seat, remove the negative battery cable clamp from the battery terminal, and put the clamp in a plastic bag, to isolate it. This cuts power supply to the SRS (Airbag) System. The airbag sensor is under the driver's seat, affixed to the floor pan, under the carpet.

If this sensor is banged - if you drop the seat on it, or drop a tool on it - the airbag could deploy. This can be lethal, at close quarters. It will also be costly: a new sensor is about $1,200, if they're still available. A new airbag is about the same.

Hope this helps.

Yours faithfully,

Spook
