I'm not sure, but I think there is enough air movement in the engine bay to allow sufficient cooling. Only a relatively small amount of radiant heat would be absorbed by the air and the rest would go right into the alt case.
I might add something to help cool the plate itself. I wonder what the hottest part of the exhaust system is. I suppose this might be my chance to see a use for a IR thermometer. I also want to see if the heat makes it unbend itself.
It seem that the big difference between the alternator and generator installations is the closeness to the exhaust.
I don't do much work with emissivity equations anymore.
