Vacuum Leak after airfilter change? 200

After I found a pushed in pin on the AMM in our '88 745 GLE, I did three things -

1 - I peeled the boot back on the female side and when the pins were in their proper place, I made a line across the wires with a Sharpie. Whenever I plugged the AMM in, I peeled back the boot to see if all the pins were seated, then I folded the boot back.

2 - In my car, the wiring to the AMM was routed around something (I forget what it was!) - I rerouted the wires in front of the item and therefore the wires were pushed toward the plug instead of being pulled from it.

3 - I made a tag out of flat plastic and attached it near the plug with a warning about the bad pin - for others to hear of the problem.

4 - (I know, I said three) I showed the problem to my wife and two daughters in case the problem popped up again. (Daughters? - actually I taught them some things about cars and made them check tire pressures, fluids, and a visual of belts and hoses every Saturday, or they could not use our cars.) Christine even changed a flat on a Dodge FWD in a swamp in Saskatchewan!

Interestingly, I had the problem right after a tune up by my dealer!

Even if your problem is not the plug, you might follow my advice to avoid a future problem.
