Well, after all that, I got my transmission back!!!!!!!!!
It took a handwritten letter to the CEO of UPS, sent next day air so they would consider it important enough to open.
I got a call from the CEO's exec assistant. Companies like this usually have someone like that for the customers who won't shut up :-)
Anyways, she sorted it. It took a while plus effusive groveling on my side, but I got a result!!!
And it was undamaged. Phew.
So - any of you folks out there that has lost something, try this method. I have had good results in other companies too.
