hi sages- directional signals suddenly stopped after a period of buzzing sound from center dash. sounds like signal flasher went stinko. hope dashboard doesn't have to be disassembled. bet dealer wants $1k to replace $5 part. need to fix fast as don't like to drive w/o signals at night on thunder road. would tip off coppers. need a sage to set me on the right steps. thanks tons oldduke

“ aces and eight's”. Do you know that’s the deadman’s hand?

I did not know that. Some folks I knew in the Atlantic Northeast would say this as a avocational well-wish.
Maybe I'll show the images on how I lube the latches and hinges, yet no latches other than the hood latch, using a tub of white lithium. Better than the spray and more persistent.

Will I buy another Volvo??? We'll see....

jw and kit g - youre both funny as hell. heard of a new fakeout from a low down high smelling shyster- a gronificator. heard of it? get a load of this . work on small engines too(briggs and Stratton, Tecumseh ). heard briggs known as a quality company now in their new models calls for no oil changes(have even removed the drain plug from their engines. also for last few years they have been using plastic timing gears). unless I am missing something these seem stupid false economies and counterintuitive. what think you. glad they never did that in volvo 24s. appreciate your observations. thanks tons oldduke

Just curious, Kitty, how many cups do you get out of a tea bag these days? I think of you when I'm making one stretch.

hi arty b and kit g- cats, muffler bearings and teacups. back in 56 uncle earl down the street would potshot marauding stray cats with his daisy red ryder. when a bb or two would hit their keasters they would run like mofos from a hubcap heist. mutha and aunt flo would always get two cups out of one tea bag. thought that was kind of cheap. bet kit wouldn't do that. glad im not that cheap. thanks tons for your always useful advice my bruthas oldduke

Hiya Uncle OldDuke and Uncle Arty B!
Thank you.
Sorry for the slow (gin) reply. Awaiting snewz on jobs. Technical writer jobs. Appears I may be starting Monday 4 May or soon depending on the viron thingy that we dare not mention and must remain hidden from!
Stretch a tea bag between two cuppas, at least? Both of you? You'd rather have a mild brew or steep versus a full strength brew?
Is the tea in the bag really strong? PG Tips can be strong to some. PG Tips has some Assam tea in their original and strong blends. PG Tips will get your morning motor running!

I want an Uncle Earl! I'll bet some of those stray cats were struttin' after their hub cap heist? Hope no hubcaps were taken!
Sometimes stray cats are not good out wandering around and eating wild birds.
In Spokane in like 2007, I discovered at a Ukraine or Russian food store Aromatic Earl Grey Tea, and loose tea, from Ahmad Tea in a white metal 17.5-ounce (500g) tin.

In daily morning use today. Three scoops in a 1.5 quart pan to steep. Half today. The rest sets in the pan overnight and stews, and I know doing so is no-no.
I use a sieve to pour into a glass.
Yet too much and I give terrible ideas in that LH-3.1 roll call when angst filled whether the job is on the way. That response of mine was terrible.
Sure Happy it's Friday!
Hope you folks and yours are enjoying your selves.
Maybe a cylinder head gasket or two. Hope to have a garage soon!
Buttermilk Boy.

My dealer doesn't have any mechanics that can work on any Volvo prior to 2001.
Check your turn signal lights, do they come on when you move the stalk? That would let you 'blink' the light manually 3 times and avoid stupid tickets. Heck, half of the drivers around here either don't use turn signals or turn them on after stopping at a light.
Prepare to replace the relay. I believe NAPA has them. Some of the knock offs are louder than others, but they work.

"or turn them on after stopping at a light."
I've been guilty of that one. And worse, when the lane permits, sometimes I change my mind while waiting at the red light with the signal on, shut it off and drive straight ahead. Unless, of course, I am the first one at the light, and the opposing traffic might feel safe to turn left in front of me.
Also, I'm not that good at hearing things in the car, so if anyone has ever cussed me out for having a slow car, I've yet to see or hear it. Certainly, I'll pay extra attention next time I'm driving in West Palm Beach.

First, test it carefully to determine whether the buzzing happens only on directionals or if it also happens when using the hazard flashers. The same flasher relay is used for both functions.
If it only happens with the turn signals, I suggest you give fuse #5 a spin.
If both, then you may need to replace or resolder your flasher relay, which is behind the kickpanel to your right, clipped to the left front support leg of the center console.
Make sure to clip it back where you found it when you're done, as the location helps to amplify the clicking sound to remind you to shut it off after changing lanes on the expressway.

hi arty b and Klaus- moe said always try the simple stuff first . said he learned that on the beach at Omaha when the shermans stalled. followed artys advice. 16a fuse at #5 in fuse panel seemed a little corroded on ends. emery papered the ends and the spring contacts. put it back in and rotated it. signals worked and have continued to work. hazard flashers worked before and after so had to be the circuit for the directionals. no more buzzing of relay. figure the corrosion reduced amperage out put for the directionals and caused the crapout and buzzing . oxidation and ozone generation, which is corrosive, on a high amperage circuit contributed. how do you like my electrical theory? rememba I=E/R . isn't the relay like most an electromagnetic connector? they are sensitive to amperage fluctuations. thanks tons oldduke btw- can you imagine the f bombs and gestures I would suffer if my directionals didn't work at a stop light launch? surely my feelings would be hurt.
