Back in here after 20 years out ... 200

Hi guys, I was here a lot during the 90s, getting info. I was also very active in Swedish Bricks. A lot has changed in 25 years. We used to live in France, now it's Texas. We stopped driving 240s in 99 after our 3rd kid was born and we couldn't fit 3 car seats across the back seat. So I kinda left the Volvo community. We went to bigger vehicles. Now it's old Ford diesel pickups.

Our youngest is 18 now and I gave her a very clean 89 F250 but it developed the infamous IDI offset core cavitation-perforated cylinder wall issue at 108k miles. It will take me months to get it sleeved so I might as well TIDI it too, another big project...So now she wants a 244GL she found in Texas.

It was a 1-owner car, all receipts etc, until it blew a head gasket putting around town and the elderly owner just went the new Camry route, so common. That was 5 years ago and it's sat since. It comes with its newly-machined cylinder head, plus a spare 1985 motor (B230F now?) and tranny. Interior is in good shape and cloth, odd for a GL. All body panels straight, no rust seen.

So I may be out here again with questions. I don't remember my old login info and that email address was probably hotmail, which wound up swimming in spam so I abandoned it. Maybe an oldtimer out here remembers me.

Reno in Central Texas
Formerly about 10 Bricks, a 744TD, and a 940T that I should NEVER have sold.

    .K vs L Jetronic 200

I already have a question. I just read how K and L Jetronic are totally different. The spare motor that comes with this 1980 244 is a 1985 B230F. I'm starting to wonder if I can use it at all. The B230F is a new block, new crank, and new injection. It has a fuel rail instead of individual CIS lines. I'd be surprised if I could use much of it at all for repairs or upgrades to the B21F that came in the 1984.

I reckon that the extra 200cc would be nice, but not if it's not feasible.

I don't get the Mittens Romney comment, btw.

      .K vs L Jetronic 200

short answer is not quite. best would be transplant the entire b230, injection and all, into the 80. brackets for the power steering and ac won't swap from the b21, that's b230 only, different ac comp and ps pump. if you have all the lh parts, it's plug and play. get the 89 up flywheel and you could go to lh 2.4, if you get everything.

otherwise, you have to use the b21 head on the b230. i GUESS, as i sure as hell wouldn't try this, use a b230 head gasket on the b21 block. then you have the airflow difference between the b21 airflow meter and the b230, so it's performance might be a problem. there was a b23e kjet in canada and the airflow meter is a bigger diameter with a different fuel dist. than the b21f.

me, i'd rebuild the b21 when the time comes and sell the b230. and start a new thread when there's a different post than your introduction. makes searches easier.
