Refinishing Draco Wheels 700

I'm looking to refinish the 15" Draco wheels on my 740 and I would like to know if anyone can offer any info regarding the correct paint colour to use on them. Is there a Volvo paint code? If there isn't then what paints are the best match? I'm looking to get the very best OE colour match since I want the finished wheels to match the OE wheel caps. Thanks.

I have used the same color that was used for the body on the 2,7 and 9 series cars. That paint code is 130.

I will point out that 30 years down the road the original finish on the center caps will probably not match that Silver Metallic 130. I found that the original finish on the 30 year old center caps was a bit darker than the new 130.

I thought about repainting the caps as well as the wheels and having decals made to duplicate the original graphics. That was more than I wanted to spend. I decided that if I moved forward with repainting a set of Hydra wheels I would just purchase new caps and sell the old ones on eBay to off set the cost somewhat.

Thanks for your reply. I'm quite familiar with the paint code 130 colour - both my '77 264 GL & '86 240 GL were finished in that colour. All of my center caps are quite new - purchased in the last 5 years. So, I don't foresee any colour matching issues. In the past I have had decals made up to refinish the old caps but have found it much better all-around to spend the $15 per cap for new ones straight from Volvo.

There's a fellow on YT - 'Simpson's Classics' - who refinished his 5 Hydra wheels in 2021. He purchased new genuine Volvo center caps (1343663) and prior to painting the wheels took one of the new caps to the paint shop where he was having the paint mixed to have it scanned for a possible paint code. It scanned as Volvo paint code 426 - Mystic Silver Metallic. This is the colour that he used on his Hydras - a base coat of 426 followed by a gloss finish clear coat. The result was an as OE appearance as you could hope for. If you go to his channel you can view the 20 minute video.

Did you clear coat your wheels? And if so, what sort of finish did you go with? Thanks.

I did not clear coat the wheels I painted. I used enamel with a hardener (or whatever the technical term is). This was a number of years ago. I have not had the opportunity to work on my Hydras at this point.

I will have a look those Simpson's Classics YouTube videos.

Thanks for the additional info. Yes, be sure to view some of Marc's videos. I think you'll appreciate seeing the results he obtained on his Hydra wheels and how good they look on his 940 wagon.
